A Promise Being Kept

In 2008, I read the Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. If you have not read it, please do. In June of 2005, Luttrell was a member of a 4-man U. S. Navy SEAL team that went into the Afghanistan mountains near the border of Pakistan. Their mission was to capture or kill an al Qaeda leader operating in a Taliban stronghold.

While on this mission, three goat herders, one only 14 years old, and about 100 goats stumbled right into their unit. The tactical decision was clear. The three Afghans had to die; Casualties of war. There were an estimated 140 heavily armed Taliban fighters in the area. To let these individuals go free would, without a shadow of a doubt, put the lives of the SEAL Team in serious jeopardy. Yet, the decision was made to release the non-combatants. The act of mercy cost three SEALS their lives. One of those was SGT 2 Matthew Gene Axelson. Axelson’s dying words to a severely wounded Luttrell were, “You stay alive, Marcus. And tell Cindy I love her.”

Toward the end of Lone Survivor, Luttrell mentions that Axelson was buried in Chico, CA. I made a promise the moment I read this that I would pay my respects to this fallen hero. Chico is only 90 miles from my home. Over the ensuing 3 years, I have been in or through Chico a dozen times for work. On most of those occasions, I never thought of Axelson. The few times I did remember, it just wasn’t convenient. I was too busy or so I told myself.

Then late last June, I knew I was going to be passing through the town again. I asked my daughter Sherry to please do her computer search magic and try and find where SGT 2 Matthew Axelson was interned in 2005 in Chico, CA. Within an hour she called me to say it was the Glen Oaks Memorial Park and gave me the address.
By the time I arrived, there was no one in the office to direct me to the grave. It was 96 degrees Fahrenheit. There are nearly 11,000 interned there. After an hour of walking up one isle and down another, I was sweating profusely and starting to get discouraged. Then I began thinking about all the suffering endured by Axelson over the last few hours of his life and was shamed into continuing the search. How pathetic? I kept at it another 20 minutes when my favorite bird, a magpie, started squawking like crazy and hoping around a specific grave. I thought this must be a sign. It wasn’t. I gave it another 15 minutes and then accepted a random search was not the way to do it.

This week, I made a point to visit Glen Oaks during working hours and was directed to the proper grave site. SGT 2 Axelson was 29 years forever young. I sat on the grass in front of the grave for a few moments and said a silent prayer for Matt and for his wife Cindy. Matthew Axelson gave his life for this country and it took me three years to keep my promise to honor him. I both wanted and expected to feel guilt. Why did it take me so long to keep my promise? Yet, that emotion did not surface. Rather there was a calm resolve of acceptance. It was almost as if there was some dimension eluding my comprehension. Like a name or a place right on the tip of your tongue but the harder you try to bring it forth the deeper it recedes.

It wasn’t until many miles down the highway that the answer came to me in an instant. I have been keeping that promise to the very best of my limited abilities. Two Tax Day protests in Sacramento, both 9-12 Marches in DC, over 40 blogs dealing with liberals politicians and an outspoken member of the Tea Party Patriots. I was honoring Matt in ways he would have wanted, fighting to preserve our country.

I do not have and never had the courage of a Matthew Axelson. Yet for him and all those who have given their lives for the cause of freedom, we must all do whatever we can to be worthy of their sacrifice and the lifelong pain inflicted upon their families. The progressives/liberals have been chipping away at our freedoms for decades. Starting in 2009, with control of both Houses of Congress and the White House, the chipping hammers were stored away and the wrecking ball came out.

Tens of millions of Americans are aware that the Ruling Class inside the DC beltway has been running a shell game on us for a very long time. This was on full display with the “debt ceiling crisis” charade. Those with an R behind their names pointed accusing fingers at those with a D behind their names and vice versa. The Democrat party has been totally co-opted by those who would spend us into financial collapse. The Republican leadership has become just as corrupted. They are like drug addicts. They will do or say anything to get their next fix. They increase our debt by 7 trillion dollars and say it is a tax cut because it wasn’t the planned $10 trillion of increases. They don’t seem to care that our dollar is turning into Monopoly money. We can’t pay our troops, build aircraft carriers, and buy fuel for our planes with Monopoly money. Does this remind you of the USSR a couple decades ago? China’s debt to GDP is 17%; ours is now 97%!

We awoke just in time in 2010 and prevent our country from bleeding out. Now we must complete the operation to save our Republic. We only have one chance. We must clean house in 2012. Every politician who voted for Obama-care, every member of the House who voted against Cut, Cap and Balance and every Senator that voted for the debt limit increase must be rejected and ejected in 2012. We must replace them with individuals who are fiscal conservatives. If we do not, may God forgive us for our Grandchildren will not.

Tea Party Hobbits

Elitist RINO John McCain on the Senate floor this past week called those of us who believe in the fight to secure a balanced budget amendment and entitlement reforms, “Tea Party Hobbits.” McCain said we thought we “could return to Middle Earth having defeated Mordor.” Who the hell does this guy think he is? Is this all a joke to him?
We have 9.2% unemployed with millions of others living in fear of losing their jobs. Our economy is in such dire straits from out of control spending and printing paper money out of fairy dust that the IMF recently issued a report on a possible replacement for the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

This raise in the debt ceiling fiasco has been a great excuse for the news media to ignore the Obama Administration’s sale of weapons to Mexican drug cartels, resulting in the murder of at least one U. S. Border Agent and countless other men, women and children. Over 1,700 guns sold illegally, some to known felons, in 15 months. Operation Fast and Furious was a deliberate strategy and violation of the law in an attempt by our government to blame cartel gun violence on Unites States gun stores. According to House Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, Attorney General Eric Holder is stonewalling the investigation. Operation Fast and Furious makes Nixon’s Watergate pale by comparison. Yet, the media (other than Fox News) and our politicians bury this story with yet another “the world is coming to an end” trumped up crisis. Yes, we needed to address the debt ceiling. Did we have to do it by August 2nd? No, we didn’t.

Moody’s Investors Service announced Friday that while a rise in the debt ceiling was necessary, it “would not put the nation’s AAA credit rating back on solid footing.” Our problem is spending, not revenue. We need to get government off the backs of businesses small and large so they can feel safe to start hiring. We could dramatically increase revenue by seriously shrinking government, restraining the EPA and adopting reasonable tax laws. We can’t have General Electric and 49% of the people not paying any income tax. If this makes me a Hobbit to John McCain, so be it.

To the 22 who voted “no” after Boehner commanded you all to “get your ass in line,” I salute you. Please get the list of 22; print it out and support these people in 2012. To others who fought the good fight as long as you could, I truly appreciate the effort. I am on the side of the millions like Rush Limbaugh who felt we should have never given up. Still, I respect those who did their personal best. When people of integrity like Laura Ingram, Thomas Sowell and Allen West supported the Boehner Bill Part 2, I will respectfully agree to disagree.

Speaking of Rep. Allen West, he would never have voted for a bill because of a threat by Boehner or anyone else. He would do what he considered the right thing in spite of the threat. West stated he wanted Cut, Cap and Balance, which passed the House. They should have stood firm. We are all being played and the time draws near to end this game.

Mob Boss President

Barrack Obama is the head of a gangster organization that has control of the United States government. This administration has no regard for the rule of law.

One of the first blatant signs of just how contemptuous this administration would act towards law abiding citizens was when tax and bankruptcy laws were openly cast aside to benefit the UAW. The theft of money owed Chrysler’s secured creditors overturned 100 years of bankruptcy law and threatens all Fifth Amendment protections of property rights. That was just the beginning.

In addition to being socialist, many in the administration are racist. Attorney General Eric Holder, who serves at the whim of the President, is a prime example. Anyone who saw the video of the New Black Panther Party members in front of a polling station in 2008 instantly recognized their threat and intimidation. Holder dropped the slam dunk case against these men. Why? According to Justice attorney Christopher Coats in testimony before the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights, there exist “a deep-seated opposition to equal enforcement of the Voting Rights Act against racial minorities and for the protection of whites who have been discriminated against.” The rule of law does not apply to unions, (non-conservative) minorities and other influential supporters of The Boss.

Can’t get Cap n Trade passed over the objections of Congress. No problem. Just turn regulation writing and enforcement over to the EPA. Can’t get amnesty for illegal aliens (new Obama voters), no problem. The Obama administration has a plan to grant legal status to illegal aliens without going through the pesky Congressional process. It is commonly referred to as “stealth amnesty.” The Obama Justice Department is on record that it will not enforce current federal immigration laws. In fact, admits that it suspended the deportation of more than 34,000 illegal aliens in 2010 alone.

So many flouts to our Constitution and rules of law and so little space for this blog. Let me conclude with the war in Libya.

With a straight face, the administration claims the President does not have to abide by the 1973 War Powers Act because we are not at war. They claim our military is just involved in a “kinetic military action” or a “limited military action.” We are dropping bombs on Libya destroying property while killing and maiming men, women and children. If a country was doing the same to us, Congress and Obama would declare an act of war immediately. Congressman Tom McClintock had this to say: “The House has just considered whether to authorize war with Libya (HR2278). It has specifically, categorically and decisively rejected it. The President is now on notice that he is in direct defiance of Congress.”

The response to Congress by mob boss Obama has been eerily similar to the famous line, “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

16th In Line of Succession - Arne Duncan

The Department of Education (DoED) Secretary, Arne Duncan, has made it clear that, with or without Congress passing the Gainful Employment Regulation, he intends to move forward with overhauling the No Child Left Behind law. According to Secretary Duncan, it’s better if Congress acts but he is frustrated with the “slow motion train wreck” and is prepared to take action unilaterally.

Education & Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued a statement earlier this month which in part states: “With this regulation, the (Obama) administration has chosen to disregard the concerns of countless Americans and blatantly ignore the bipartisan will of the House of Representatives.”

According to PR Newswire, on May 9, 2011, Harry Alford, president of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, Lanny Davis, former Clinton White House Special Counsel and Mario H. Lopez, president of the Hispanic Leadership Fund, called upon the DoED to stop the potentially harmful Gainful Employment Regulation, at least until potential impacts on minority students has been evaluated.

Members of the Tea Party Patriots expressed the opinion that Mr. Duncan’s stance reflects the current Administration’s goal of neutering the Legislative Branch. They cite the EPA’s conflict with Congress over Cap & Trade and the illegal war in Libya as examples. However, it should be noted that power struggles between the Executive Branch and Legislative Branch did not begin with the election of Barrack Obama.

When asked if Mr. Duncan’s position was yet another attempt by the Obama Administration to circumvent and diminish the authority of Congress, Tom McClintock (R-CA) gave this reply: “The single most important thing the federal government can do to improve our public schools is to get its nose out of classrooms.”

The U. S. Department of Energy was formed on August 8, 1977 by President Jimmy Carter. On October 17, 1979 the U. S. Department of Education was formed by President Carter. If anything, we are more dependent on foreign oil now than in 1977. We have no obvious energy policy other than to block the use of our own natural resources. Our public schools are a disaster; education of our children has declined while propagandizing for a one-world order, socialist agenda has permeated every level beginning in elementary and culminating in our nation’s universities.
Just how dangerous is the Department of Education?

In the spring of 2010, it was widely reported that the U. S. Department of Education was purchasing 27 Model 870 police 12-gauge shotguns to be assigned to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). When numerous queries came in asking why the U. S. Department of Education required, or would even want, 27 shotguns with 14-inch barrels, they published the following:

“The Office of Inspector General is the law enforcement arm of the U.S. Department of Education and is responsible for the detection of waste, fraud, abuse, and other criminal activity involving Federal education funds, programs, and operations. As such, OIG operates with full statutory law enforcement authority, which includes conducting search warrants, making arrests, and carrying firearms.”

On June 7th, federal agents of the OIG served a search warrant on the home of Kenneth Wright in Stockton, CA. If that sounds innocuous, it was anything but.
About 15 federal agents broke down his door at 6AM, put him in handcuffs, grabbed him by the back of the neck and removed him from his home. Mr. Wright, who was only in his undershorts, was forced to the ground in his front yard. While he was held down with a knee in his back, the agents woke up his 3 children, ages 3, 7 and 11. Mr. Wright and his children were placed in a patrol car for 6 hours while the house was searched. The kids were traumatized and Mr. Wright, who has no criminal record, was humiliated.

It is reported that the OIG was looking for Wright’s estranged wife who does not reside at the residence. Justin Hamilton, a spokesman for the U. S. Department of Education refused to say specifically why the raid took place.

It is frightening enough that the Department of Homeland Security can terrorize law abiding citizens with impunity. Now it is the Department of Education!

Is your family next?

Horns of a Dilemma

Congressman Tom McClintock, CA-04, has long been a critic of the U.S. Forest Service. Now that he is Chairman of the Water and Power Subcommittee of the House Natural Resources Committee, he has the perfect forum to act on his concerns.

In the Water and Power Subcommittee Hearing last week, Chairman McClintock had this to say in connection with H. R. 489, authored by Congressman Paul Gosar: “This bill arises from the bureaucratic intransigence, megalomania and abuse that has become the new hallmark of this rogue agency.” He went on to say, “Having watched the Forest Service’s abusive behavior in my own district, I have no doubt that it is deliberately attempting to create conditions that would ultimately expel these long-established communities from the national forests. This is a pattern of abuse we are watching across the western United States.”

In a letter to USDA Forest Service Chief Thomas Tidwell dated December 22, 2010, McClintock wrote: “In May of 2009 and April of 2010, some of my California colleagues and I sent letters expressing concern with needlessly stringent travel management restrictions across Region 5. I have also had several conversations in my office with you personally in which I expressed the growing perception of my constituents that an attitude now permeates your agency that its principal purpose is to discourage the public’s use of the public’s land.” The Congressman concluded with, “During our discussions, I avowed my intention to seek redress by Congress if the Forest Service continued to drift back to the exclusionary policies of pre-Charter England. I write today to affirm that intention.” The Pacific Southwest Region, commonly referred to as Region 5, consists of 20 million acres and 18 national forests.

In January 2010, Congressman Wally Herger (CA-02) put out a statement regarding the Forest Service proposal to ban off-highway vehicles (OHVs) from its Maintenance Level (ML) 3 roads. “It is difficult to fathom how it continues to maintain its position on ML-3 roads despite the guidance of the CHP and the input of local government and stakeholders.”

Mr. Les Joslin teaches wilderness management for Oregon State University and edits the Pacific Northwest Forest Service Association’s quarterly newsletter. On March 6, 2011, Mr. Joslin posted, The Future of America’s National Forests Depends on Revised Laws and a Restored U.S. Forest Service. In this post he wrote, “Few would dispute the notion that the National Forest System and the U.S. Forest Service are impaled on the horns of a dilemma of dysfunction. On one horn is the lack of a clear-cut role for the national forests. On the other is the lack of an agency staffed by professional forest officers at all levels able to efficiently and effectively manage those lands.”

At a Regional Forest Service Roundtable on August 25, 2010, Congressman McClintock remarked: “For generations, the U.S. Forest Service maintained a balanced approach to the management of our forests …Now, it seems to be following a very different policy of exclusion, expulsion and benign neglect…”

Thomas Jefferson - Right or Wrong

A fellow two-time “March on Washington” friend of mine, Bruce Cerrone, sent me a piece on the major accomplishments and quotes of Thomas Jefferson. I agree with President Kennedy who considered Jefferson a genius. I contend Jefferson was also a prophet of uncanny accuracy.

Jefferson said “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who are not.” Anyone who could not site a long list of this happening since the days of President Johnson, and enhanced on steroids under President Obama, should not bother reading anything I write.

Jefferson said, “It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principal which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.” Wow! What a radical thought. I guess President Obama was too busy reading the likes of James Cone’s Black Theology and Black Power to study Jefferson. As the dollar continues to plummet, our nation becomes weaker. It is only a matter of time before this emboldens a foreign power to test us. China attacks Taiwan? Russia invades Georgia? North Korea attacks South Korea? Iran, Syria and Egypt overrun Israel? For those under 30 who were not home schooled, I was referring to Georgia the country, not Georgia the state. That would be a few years down the road.

Jefferson, “My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.” Ronald Reagan must have read the same history. Perhaps this helps explain why every Mayor of Detroit for the past half-century were Democrats (how has that worked out for you Detroit?). It was reported this past week that 47% of the citizens of Detroit are functionally illiterate. This occurred in spite of our spending roughly $3,000 more per student than the national average. I suspect few 2011 Detroit high school graduates will be attending the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson.

Jefferson, “To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” Abortion, subsidies to terrorist nations, ACORN (by any name), Fannie May… fill in your own favorites. The choices are many. Oh, did you see that Fannie May is now asking the government (us) for an additional $8.5 billion in aid! That would bring the total to nearly $100 billion. Isn’t that just wonderful? Everyone in America has the “right” to own a home, regardless of their ability to pay for it. Just take the money from Fannie May and let them replace it with Obama Stash.

Jefferson also said that, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” On this, I pray Jefferson is proven wrong. We will see come November 2012.
